KYB

What is perpetual KYB?

Traditional KYB happens once, at onboarding. Perpetual KYB treats it as a standing state - checked continuously, not just at the start of a relationship.

Definition

Perpetual KYB - Running Know-Your-Business verification on a recurring basis for the lifetime of a business relationship, rather than only when it begins - the umbrella term covering both ownership monitoring and non-ownership signals like status and filings together.

Why the term exists

"KYB" on its own describes a check, not a schedule - it doesn't say whether that check happens once or repeatedly. "Perpetual" is the qualifier that makes the schedule explicit: the same verification logic, re-run continuously rather than treated as a one-off gate a business passes through once.

What it's made of

Perpetual KYB isn't a single check - it's KYB monitoring (registration status, filings, general entity health) combined with UBO monitoring (specifically, whether beneficial ownership has changed), run together against the same entity on the same schedule.

Why it matters for a compliance programme

Regulatory guidance increasingly frames customer due diligence as ongoing, not a single onboarding gate - see continuous due diligence. Perpetual KYB is the practical, product-level answer to that expectation: instead of relying on a business to proactively tell you something changed, the check itself runs again.
